Mothers everywhere deserve extra applause this year – for reasons that don’t need explaining. This Mother’s Day weekend, Kailua Town is helping to put smiles on moms’ faces with A Thousand Blooms.

Stop by the pop-up flower stand at 143 Hekili Street (near Grace in Growlers) between 10am and 2pm on May 8th and 9th and pick out a free, long-stemmed blossom to give to a special mother – or keep for yourself. Each day 500 flowers will be given away, compliments of Alexander & Baldwin and their two Kailua Town partners:  Picket Fence Florist and That Barn Hawaii.

Here are more ways Kailua Town can help you show the love this Mother’s Day.

Build Your Own Mother’s Day Gift Basket

Gathering just the right gifts to pamper Mom with a basket of luxurious products for bath and body is easy at Waxing the City. We stopped by the Kailua Town location and found body wash-infused buffers, shower steamers and bath balms, hydrating lip and eye gel patches, Hawaii-made salt scrubs and sea soaps from ‘Ili, and a collection of Lalicious nourishing whipped sugar scrubs and body butters in decadent fragrances.

At Island Olive Oil, find a variety of customizable gift sets and baskets that tickle the taste buds. The Truffle Hunter tasting basket or the Italian Lover’s basket, perhaps? With an impressive selection of more than two dozen premium and flavored olive oils and three dozen kinds of white, dark and wine vinegar, you can create a 4- or 6-bottle taster set of Mom’s favorite flavors – or ask a sales associate to suggest interesting flavor combos. And for our Mother’s Day mixologists, Island Olive Oil has posted a deliciously easy recipe for Peach Bellinis, featuring their Peach White Balsamic. Find it here.

Dine & Wine Her

“Easy pleasing” is what we call Big City Diner’s family meals-to-go, and you’ll want to get your order in early for their Mother’s Day Weekend specials (available May 7-9) since quantities are limited. The Prime Rib dinner pack serves 4 to 5 people and includes snow Krabby cake appetizers, sides, salad and dessert. The generous Breakfast Family Pack for 4-6 people includes Ani’s cinnamon bread French toast, Big City’s own bread pudding with haupia crème sauce, scrambled eggs, Portuguese sausage, snow Krabby cakes and steamed rice (or upgrade to fried rice). No one has to cook OR wash the dishes when you dine in at Big City Diner. Breakfast, brunch and dinner specials are on the Mother’s Day Weekend menu. Check them all out here.

Treat a favorite mother or plan a mom’s dessert date!  D’Vine Kailua Wine Bar is serving up a glass of bubbly with a slice of cheesecake and a fresh rose for Mom ($12). Available May 7-9. Reservations recommended.

Don’t Forget A Card

It’s hard to compete with a home-made card, lovingly crafted by the kiddos, but we’re loving the cheerful card spotted at Lauren Roth Art Boutique. Designed by photographer/artist Kristen Reyno of Lola Pilar Hawaii, it spells out MOM with Hawaii’s flowers. Also check out Lauren’s colorful collection of “Over the Rainbow” wrapping paper – a collaboration with eco-conscious Wrappily. Each of three designs is double-sided, so you get two different prints!

Happy Mother’s Day!
